On 24 January 2022, we announced the appointment of Mr Steve Herlihy as Chief Financial Officer and Company Secretary, replacing Mr Rob Orr.
We would like to take this opportunity to introduce Steve...
Steve is a Chartered Accountant with over 30 years’ professional experience. His extensive background in the resources sector includes senior executive roles within BHP Limited, Newmont Corporation, Newcrest Mining, Normandy Mining, WMC Resources and Placer Dome/Barrick Gold - balanced by rolling up his sleeves to work in successful start-ups and smaller environments.
We describe Steve’s bio and qualifications in some detail in this announcement.
Steve strengthens the Bannerman team with deep experience in finance (eg. he was Global Financial Controller of BHP Iron Ore for 6 years) and senior commercial roles (eg. he was Commercial Lead on BHP’s attempted on-market takeover of Rio Tinto in 2007). Importantly, Steve is adept at working at the smaller end of town and has proven to be highly flexible and hands-on. Before joining us, Steve was advising mostly mid-tier listed companies and private SMEs as Head of the Consulting and Corporate Finance Advisory Practice of Pitcher Partners. He has, over the last 30 years, negotiated a vast number of JV transactions and other commercial agreements, played lead roles in dozens of M&A transactions and either led or advised on numerous project financings.
Steve’s experience is complimented by a talent for creative, strategic and innovative thinking. In his final years at BHP, Steve was part of the Strategy & Innovation Leadership Team, responsible for a team of Analysis & Improvement specialists that focused on operational effectiveness. Steve had a command of cutting edge (for then) technologies and his team delivered over $250m in sustainable productivity benefits over two years. His experience in this domain will be invaluable as we tackle a fast-moving transition to automation and incentives to deliver zero-carbon outcomes at Etango.
As CFO, Steve will be an ambassador for our business: with government, in our host community, within the nuclear industry and in relation to product marketing. Over the past two years, Steve led an engagement with the Asian Development Bank for the establishment of a multi-lateral Trade Credit Investment and (re)Guarantee Agency – a hybrid Exim Bank and Export Credit Agency designed to support trade and investment, and in turn living standards, across China and 17 other developing member countries, including India and Kazakhstan. The success of this highly challenging engagement speaks to Steve’s strong sense of purpose, as well as his effectiveness.
“I am delighted to welcome Steve Herlihy to Bannerman as we progress through the final evaluation and advancement stages for our world-class Etango-8 Uranium Project in Namibia. Steve is an executive of proven calibre and extensive experience who adds further strategic, financing and transactional depth to the Bannerman team.”
